TUESDAY January 4

Objective: Students will be able to identify and label different types of propaganda.

Journal: How was your break?  What did you end up doing?  Did you do everything you were planning on doing?  What presents did you get?  Are you ready for school to start again?

Agenda: 1) Introduce Vocabulary: ensconced, laborious, enmity, vivacious, apathy, acute, parasitical, cryptic, indefatigable, tractable, ignominious, impromptu, canvass, procured, eloquence

2) Note-taking: satire, parody, characterization (direct and indirect), propaganda

3) Read Chapter 1 of “Animal Farm.”  Class will read the first chapter of Animal Farm out loud as a whole looking for examples of propaganda.

4) Question Worksheet: Students will answer comprehension and critical thinking questions on Animal Farm.

Homework: Compose “Beasts of Philly” anthem.  Students will compose an anthem for the city of Philadelphia similar to the song “Beasts of England” sung in Animal Farm.
